KEYNOTE Speakers

July 18 - Ken Sande is president of Peacemaker Ministries and author of The Peacemaker, which has been translated into ten languages. He is passionate about bringing the life-changing power of the gospel and the wisdom of God's peacemaking principles into the lives of Christians and their churches. His early experience in engineering and law fueled his desire to dedicate his life to biblical peacemaking, resulting in his decision 25 years ago to found Peacemaker Ministries.

Ken has used biblical peacemaking principles to minister to parties in hundreds of conflict situations ranging from simple personal disputes to complex church, corporate, and legal conflicts. He has written numerous resources on conflict resolution and is in frequent demand as a conference speaker. His wife, Corlette, who has homeschooled their two teenagers, published a biblical peacemaking curriculum for children called The Young Peacemaker. The Sandes’ favorite family activity is hiking in the mountains near their home in Billings, Montana.

July 19 - Bishop Mary Ann Swenson
is episcopal leader of the Los Angeles Area of The United Methodist Church, serving the California-Pacific Annual Conference. Mary Ann Swenson has been preaching ever since she could line up her dolls to listen. As a girl, she was told the best she could hope for was to marry a preacher. "I went to college and I started dating the pre-ministerial students and sitting in class with them. And that's when I decided I'd rather be a preacher than marry one." In 1992, she became the youngest of 50 Methodist bishops in America, one of only six women.

Bishop Swenson was awarded the degree Doctor of Divinity by her alma mater, Millsaps College, in 1994. That same year she was named a Distinguished Alumna by the Claremont School of Theology. She is an Honorary Alumna of the Iliff School of Theology, Denver, Colorado. She has served on the Boards of Trustees for both Iliff, and the Saint Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, Missouri.

July 20 - Larry Osborne serves as president of the North Coast Training Network and has been the senior pastor at North Coast Church since 1980.

Recognized as one of the “most innovative” and “ten most influential churches” in America, North Coast pioneered the use of Video Venues in the late 90s and is a leader in the Multi-Site Movement. Also known for its incredible sermon-based small group ministry, North Coast has maintained a participation rate of 80% of adult weekend attendees for over 25 years. In attrition, the church has helped pave the way with new ministry models for team teaching, leadership development, word-of-mouth growth and long-term member retention.

Larry writes and speaks extensively on the subjects of leadership and developing healthy ministry teams.

 His books include
The Unity Factor; Developing A Healthy Leadership Team,
A Contrarian’s Guide to Knowing: A Spirituality for the Rest of Us
Sticky Church: Slamming the Back Door Shut

Ten Dumb Things Smart Christians Believe
(Available April 2009)

He holds MDiv and DMin degrees from Talbot Theological Seminary.

July 21 - Ruth Haley Barton is co-founder and president of The Transforming Center (www.thetransformingcenter.org), a ministry dedicated to caring for the souls of pastors, ministry leaders and the congregations they serve.  A teacher, spiritual director, and retreat leader, Ruth is the author of several books including Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership: Seeking God in the Crucible of Ministry, Sacred Rhythms: Arranging Our Lives for Spiritual Transformation, and Invitation to Solitude and Silence.
